About Us Fine wood craftsmanship and piano building are becoming lost arts in today's age of assemble-it-yourself furniture, digital pianos, and music synthesizers.
At Renaissance Craftsmen Restoration, however, we see treasures of the past every day as beautiful pianos and furniture reach our shop for repair or restoration. We enjoy the feel, look, smell and texture of good woods. We revel in their beauty and grandeur and the exquisite work of the craftsmen who fashioned them. We only need to look inside a Chippendale secretary desk or turn of the century Steinway or Mason & Hamlin piano to see the finest examples of wood craftsmanship, from a less hurried age when men and women were inspired to create great works for generations to come.
Often on the underside of an older piano plate (also called the harp), we find chalk signatures. To our craftsmen, this is much like the signature in the lower corner of a fine painting. These great men and women worked anonymously, but their independent visions came to life in the wonderful materials and design of the masterpieces they created.
Contrast this to today's assembly line automation, kiln dried lumbers, imitation woods and a lack of old world craftsmanship. "Progress" has given us countless examples of bland, uninspired and cheap furniture and pianos.
Renaissance Craftsmen Restoration keeps the craftsman's tradition alive by restoring and refinishing exquisite vintage pianos, period furniture and heirloom family treasures. We enjoy every project and welcome you to consider working with us to help restore a valuable piece of history.
