Step 8
Keyboard/Action Prep

Posted Sep. 3, 2003

Original hammers, hammershanks, and hammer flanges are removed from their frame (or "stack"). We then measure and record the hammer dimensions, their fore and aft angles, and bore angles for future reference. The keys and wippens are also removed.

New action components are ordered from manufacturers in the U.S., Germany, Japan, or England. These are high quality parts, custom crafted to the dimensions requested by us. These manufacturers include Renner, Abel, New Tone, Immadegawa, Steinway, and Baldwin. It is extremely important to select a hammer that is suitable for your piano. We will make suggestions for your instrument's optimal sound quality.
